The 2012 Southern Living Idea House is dressed and waiting for her date (with you, the visitors!). In the meantime, her proud “parents” have sent a photo and video crew to get some pictures while she’s all gussied up.
Everyone loves a good before and after, so without further ado:

Marvin Windows & Doors, a sponsor of the 2012 Southern Living Idea House, is capturing the restoration of the 19th-century farmhouse on video. Here’s the first episode in the series, which follows the Idea House architects, builder and interior designers as they transform the old structure into a 21st century showhouse.

The team at Historical Concepts met with the interior designers from Tracery Interiors this week to walk through the house and establish a game plan for the install, which begins in May. One point of discussion was the floors. While the existing wood floors are being salvaged and refinished, the team needed to select a complementary hardwood for the “new” areas of the home. Together, we landed on Brushed Suede in Sugarcane from Shaw Floors. They seem to be the perfect marriage between the old and the new.

3 Days Until the Grand Opening
Nearly 500 people attended a party last night, hosted by Southern Living, to celebrate the completion of the 2010 Southern Living Idea House in Senoia, Georgia. The team celebrated, the guests oohed and aahed, and a good time was had by all! It took a lot of hard work to complete design, construction and decorating in less than 9 months, but the final results make it look like it was a piece of cake!

Tomorrow: More Photos of the Party and a Sneak Peek into Abercorn Place!

64 Days Until Grand Opening
Abercorn Place marks several “firsts” for Southern Living. In addition to being the first townhouse in the history of the Idea House program, this is also Southern Living’s first foray into what we at Historical Concepts call “small town urban” living. What does that mean?
Well, if you’ve never been to Senoia, Georgia, it is the quintessential small town. Located about an hour south of Atlanta, Senoia’s historic main street district is now lined with charming shops and restaurants and its quiet neighborhoods are full of some of the finest examples of turn-of-the-last century southern architecture. The Idea House is located within a new development called The Gin Property, which has been sympathetically planned and designed to extend Senoia’s historic district. Just a short stroll to Main Street and everything that Senoia has to offer, Abercorn Place offers a walkable, urban lifestyle within a small town setting, hence….”small town urban”!
